In Waiting… Images 004-006 - Mike Taylor shares a sequence of moments that capture field recording equipment aimed at empty skies. The equipment, placed in apparently remote, lonesome locations, (a rock pool, a beach, the edge of a tree line) is awaiting the arrival of birds which remain undocumented in these images.
The sense of beauty, absence, solitude and reflection is strong. The symmetry of the images suggests scientific precision and well-informed decisions, when in fact all we can do is wait for the nature of things beyond our control.
Each image is accompanied by a digital link to an online archive which houses audio recordings; the absence of birds captured by the field equipment.
Mike Taylor is a photographer, sound recordist, editor and filmmaker. He makes slow, deliberate films and can be found around the British Isles, usually very early in the morning, making ambient field recordings on his numerous devices. Mike drives a new old Volvo.
