Enter for a chance to win some free books.

On 3rd May 2021 The Silent Academy will publish a book called ‘coordinates’.

‘coordinates’ is a sequence of memories, and memories of memories that explore the interdependence of all things material and immaterial.

The book unfolds across a series of real locations that writer Andrew Shaw has lived and worked in or visited whilst writing, looking at things, making art, eating food and learning meditation techniques.

In the book these places are seldom explicitly named, but they’re places like Nottingham, London, Aberdeen, Paris, Phnom Penh, Denver, Atlanta, Barcelona, Biarritz, Tunis, Malaga, Sheffield, Muscat, Las Vegas, Kathmandu, New Delhi, Cyprus, Saigon, Hong Kong, Brisbane, Ladakh, Port Townsend, Portland, San José, Luang Prabang, Bangkok, a bus stop in Colwyn Bay, Seoul, Brooklyn, Hollywood. There are a bunch of others, but this is enough for now.

If you would like the chance to win a copy of ‘coordinates’, along with the first two books from the ‘couplets•questions•coordinates’ trilogy here’s how:

Starting today - 18 March 2021 - for the next 44 days on the Silent Academy Instagram account a sequence of geographic coordinates will be shared via the ‘stories’ feature.

  • Make a note of one, or all of those coordinates.

  • Search for the place represented by the coordinates.

  • Offer your own memory or association in response to that specific place -  use any medium - and email your piece to: contact@silentacademy.com

  • (If you win we’ll be in contact to ask your mailing address)

Small print:

You may enter in response to just one coordinate.

You may enter in response to all coordinates.

You may enter several responses to one or all coordinates.

Judges decision will be imperfect, yet final.

A winner will be announced via Instagram on 3rd May 2012. (Sometime before midnight GMT)

The Silent Academy will not keep any of your personal data on file. Unless you explicitly state ‘add me to your newsletter’.
