The Silent Academy has a manifesto. Written down on salvaged paper, the words of the manifesto have been folded up and lost somewhere.
But here’s the vibe –
Fragments of the manifesto dealt with the principles of art that we enjoy making, exploring, and representing. Part of the manifesto discussed the production of analog materials – and the avoidance of e-books, PDFs and all of that aromaless stuff.
Another key part of the manifesto involved the disruption of habitual thinking.
The core of the manifesto was that The Silent Academy would make art and books that were affordable, and that all prints, paintings, books and installations would be offered at the lowest possible price point. A discussion on why art and books are essential to life is not needed.
With the current state of the world being as it is The Silent Academy has had a number of revenue streams cut off. Workshops, teaching retreats and installations have been canceled. Book distributors have stopped distribution. Galleries displaying our work have closed.
More important than the operation of a small art press – people around the world are suffering at an unimaginable scale. We don’t need a discussion on the myriad forms of pain and fear currently being experienced by countless sentient beings.
During this time The Silent Academy is disrupting its own habitual thinking. We are offering all pamphlets PDF form – free of charge. You are encouraged to print the PDF’s and make the appropriate folds.
Save your cash for food, medicine, rent/mortgages – and have some art stuff on us.
